Description

Preface

In this first volume of Current Progress in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we have 'gathered together a posie of other men's flowers', but of course many of the contributors are not men. That certainly is progress.

Current Progress in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be an annual publication, containing short up to date reviews that will contain information about a variety of topics and be readable at one sitting. The list of contents is varied.

The subjects cover clinical risk in obstetrics, first trimester screening, foetal neurology, diabetes in pregnancy and renal disease and transplantation in pregnancy. There are also chapters on platelet function and controlling profuse pelvic haemorrhage. The gynaecology section includes two different chapters on robotic surgery, chapters on the use of ultrasound, polycystic ovary syndrome, urogynaecology and the problems encountered in paediatric gynaecology. The editors have discussed ethics in gynaecology and also the effect of oestrogen therapy for reproductive depression.

Many of the old timers in that line-up will particularly welcome the appearance of new younger authors who will become leaders in our specialty in the future. It will be a great challenge for us to maintain these standards in the annual publication of this undertaking as we expect this to have a long running position in post graduate literature in obstetrics and gynaecology. It has been a pleasure to put together experts both the senior and the young for this endeavour but we are particularly grateful to Suketu Kothari, the publisher in India who has shown a commitment and efficiency. The new project with its able publishers deserves to be successful. We are sure that it will be.
